Student, Trainee & Clinical Membership Costs
Joining UPCA provides access to a professional community committed to maintaining high standards in psychotherapy and counselling. This page outlines the current UPCA membership fees, explains what is included in your annual membership and how to pay.
UPCA membership is available for students, trainees, clinical practitioners and associate members who meet the relevant eligibility criteria. If you are unsure which membership category is right for you, please visit our Membership Categories page.
Annual Membership Fees
The UPCA membership year runs from 1 September to 31 August.
Student Membership
- £23.00 per year
- For UPCA course approved non-practicing students.
Trainee Membership
- £50.00 per year
- For members undertaking supervised clinical practice as part of a UPCA Approved Course.
Clinical Membership
- £85.00 per year
- For graduates of UPCA accredited course.
Non Clinical Associate Membership
- £23.00 per year
- For non-practising members of a university with an interest in psychotherapy/counselling or a retired UPCA member.
What your Membership Fee Includes
Your annual membership fee supports a range of professional benefits, including:

- Professional support and guidance throughout your membership
- Access to member resources and CPD recording tools
- Eligibility for accreditation (where applicable)
- Access to the UPCA Welfare Fund
- Discounted professional indemnity insurance
- Find a Therapist listing for eligible Clinical Members
- Opportunities to participate in the UPCA community through events and the Annual General Meeting
Upgrading your Membership
As members progress through their training and professional development, they may need to upgrade their UPCA membership category.
Upgrade fees made within the same membership year are:
- Student to Trainee – £29.00
- Trainee to Clinical – £40.00
These upgrade fees apply when a member has already paid their annual membership fee for the current membership year.
How to Pay Your Membership Fees
UPCA membership fees can be paid securely by using the following methods:
- Bank transfer (BACS)
- Debit or credit card via Stripe
If you are paying by bank transfer, please use the bank details provided below and include your name as the payment reference and membership number (if you are an existing member).
International members may also use services such as Wise or card payment through Stripe, depending on availability in their country.

Membership Fees - Frequently Asked Questions
When are UPCA membership fees due?
Membership fees are due each year before 1 September, which marks the start of the UPCA membership year.
Your membership renewal is therefore due no later than 1st September each year and NOT on the anniversary of your last payment in the preceding year, if you paid later than 1st September.
Can I upgrade my membership during the year?
Yes. Members can upgrade their category as they progress through training or clinical practice. See the fees for this above.
Will I receive a reminder to notify me when I need to renew my membership?
Yes, renewal reminders are sent out at the end of July. You will also receive further reminders 28, 21, 14 and 7 days before.
