Call for Participants: Bereavement and Clinical Practice

Research Participation Opportunity

UPCA members are invited to contribute to a research study exploring the impact of personal bereavement on the clinical work of psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapists. The study examines how therapists make sense of loss and how experiences of grief may influence therapeutic practice.

This research forms part of a postgraduate dissertation in Psychodynamic Practice at the University of Oxford and has received ethical approval (Ref: 2754490). It uses a reflexive thematic analysis to explore the relationship between personal loss and professional work.

The study is seeking participants who:

  • Are qualified psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapists
  • Had at least two years of clinical practice prior to their bereavement
  • Continued working therapeutically during their bereavement
  • Experienced a significant loss between 6 months and 3 years ago

Please note that NHS therapists and NHS clinical material are not included in this study.

Participation offers an opportunity to contribute to research that aims to deepen understanding of the relationship between personal experience and therapeutic practice.
